About McCarthy Publishing

At McCarthy Publishing, we work closely with schools, colleges, regional councils, organisations, and businesses to deliver targeted, trusted content to young people and their families. We do this through three distinct publications, each designed to inform, support, or entertain families at different stages of their child’s development and education:

Primary Times

Primary Times is a FREE “What’s On / Where to Go / What to Do” guide for parents of primary school children, packed with engaging editorial and carefully selected advertising.

Published seven times a year—before each school holiday and half term, plus a ‘Back to School’ issue—it is distributed directly to primary schools, taken home in school bags, and kept for weeks as a trusted resource by families. Each issue features local events, seasonal activities, reader offers, and articles about clubs, attractions, and things to do—offering local businesses and organisations a powerful way to reach thousands of engaged families right before the school holidays.

The Secondary School Guide

The Secondary School Guide supports pupils and parents as they prepare for the move to secondary school. This informative publication helps families understand their choices and make informed decisions during this key educational transition.

Your Choice – The Essential Guide To Post-16 Learning Pathways

Targeted at Year 11 pupils, Your Choice –The Essential Guide To Post-16 Learning Pathways is a professionally produced publication designed to support students as they explore their next steps after GCSEs.

It presents a comprehensive overview of all post-16 pathways, including A Levels, apprenticeships, T Levels, vocational training, sixth form colleges, and specialist providers. Packed with advice, real-life case studies, and contributions from local education and training providers, Your Choice offers clear, region-specific information to help young people make informed decisions about their futures.

A copy of the publication is handed to every Year 11 pupil in the regions we publish, via their school’s careers leader, ensuring direct delivery to those actively making decisions about their future.

Based in the Tees Valley, McCarthy Publishing operates across several UK regions. Our publications are distributed directly into schools and educational settings, making them an ideal platform for local businesses and organisations to reach engaged, family-focused audiences through cost-effective, impactful marketing.
